The Bel Air Hotel The Hague, the Netherlands

The Venue for the conference is the four-star Bel Air Hotel in The Hague. Bel Air Hotel The Hague is located in the beautiful “Statenkwartier” next to the World Forum, the prime minister's residence and the Municipal Museum, with easy access to the centre of The Hague and the beach of Scheveningen. Many attractions are within walking distance of the hotel. Surrounded by greenery, Bel Air offers a nice trim and running route directly from the hotel.

The Hague and Scheveningen beach

Den Haag (The Hague) is the capital city of the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. With a population of 500,000 inhabitants and more than one million inhabitants including the suburbs, it is the third largest city of the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The Hague is located in the west of the Netherlands.

The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Council of State, but the city is not the capital of the Netherlands which constitutionally is Amsterdam. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands lives at Huis ten Bosch and works at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. Most foreign embassies in the Netherlands and 150 international organisations are located in the city, including the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, which makes The Hague one of the major cities hosting the United Nations, along with New York, Vienna and Geneva.

Scheveningen beach is even more beautiful in summer. Scheveningen has many exciting beach pavilions where you can lounge, eat, drink in the evening.

Travel

By air
Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is the most frequently used airport by people travelling to and from The Hague by air. There are several direct trains per hour from Schiphol to The Hague. More information can be found on http://www.schiphol.nl.

Alternatively, you could also travel via Rotterdam The Hague Airport (http://www.rotterdamthehagueairport.nl/). It can be reached from Central Station by RandstadRail Line E and with an Airport Shuttle to and from Meijersplein Station. In addition to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the Netherlands has five other international airports spread throughout the country, including in Rotterdam, Groningen, Eindhoven, Enschede and Maastricht.

By train
There are two main train stations in The Hague: Den Haag Hollands Spoor (HS) and Den Haag Central Station (CS), only 1.5 km distant from each other. The international Benelux trains to Brussels call only at Hollands Spoor. Central Station does, however, now offer good connections with the rest of the country, with direct services to most major cities, for instance Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht.

By car
Major motorways connecting to The Hague include the A12, running to Utrecht and the German border. The A12 runs directly into the heart of the city. Other connecting motorways are the A4, which connects the city with Amsterdam, and the A13, which runs to Rotterdam and connects to motorways towards the Belgian border.

Public transport
Public transport in The Hague consists of a tramway network and a sizeable number of bus routes, operated by HTM Personenvervoer.

You can plan your journey on this website: http://9292.nl/en

OV-chipcard (public transport chipcard)
The OV-chipcard is now the most common system of paying for trams and buses throughout the Netherlands.

What is the OV-Chipcard
The OV-chipcard is becoming the standard payment method for the public transport system in the Netherlands. The smart card is the size of a bank card and contains an invisible chip. The OV-chipcard is a prepaid card which you can use to travel anywhere within the Netherlands by train, metro, bus and tram. You can also use it to purchase a travel product such as a one-way journey or a season ticket.
